The Fundamental Theorem of Algebra: an Elementary and Direct Proof
We present a simple, differentiation-free, integrationfree, trigonometryfree, direct and elementary proof of the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra. “The final publication (in The Mathematical Intelligencer, 33, No. 2 (2011), 1-2) is available at www.springerlink.com: http://www.springerlink.com/content/l1847265q2311325/”
متن کاملAn Elementary Proof of the Fundamental Theorem of Tropical Algebra
In this paper we give an elementary proof of the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra for polynomials over the rational tropical semi-ring. We prove that, tropically, the rational numbers are algebraically closed. We provide a simple algorithm for factoring tropical polynomials of a single variable. A central idea is the concept of least-coefficient polynomials as representatives for classes of funct...
متن کاملAn Elementary Proof of a Non-triviality of the E8 Subfactor Planar Algebra
In this paper, we show in a combinatorial way that the E8 subfactor planar algebra is 1-dimensional. In the proof, we improve the Bigelow’s relation of the E8 subfactor planar algebra and give an efficient algorithm to reduce any planar diagram to the empty diagram.
متن کاملExtending Arcs: An Elementary Proof
In a finite projective plane π we consider two configuration conditions involving arcs in π and show via combinatorial means that they are equivalent. When the conditions hold we are able to obtain embeddability results for arcs, all proofs being elementary. In particular, when π = PG(2, q) with q even we provide short proofs of some well known embeddability results.
متن کاملJordan Automorphisms on a Semisimple Banach Algebra
In the group of (continuous) Jordan automorphisms, with the uniform topology, on a semisimple Banach algebra, we show that the connected component of the identity consists of automorphisms. P. Civin and B. Yood have shown that a Jordan homomorphism (that is, a homomorphism that preserves the product xoy = | (xy+yx)) from a Banach algebra onto a semisimple Banach algebra is continuous provided t...
